Well, it’s been a year since the website was launched. This website would not have been possible if it weren’t for my two partners, or just friends, Akhil and Satwik. It all started when I randomly said I wanted to make a website after watching a movie. Akhil just went, “Well, sure, why not?” Satwik helped us financially; he wanted a website like this, but if it helped us make it, we ain’t questioning him.
At first, we thought we’d keep ourselves anonymous. We didn’t want anyone to find out who we were or who the creators of the website were. But it was pretty obvious that a website would need a lot of publishing. Since we wanted to keep Anonymous Campus mostly for FIITJEE, large advertisements wouldn’t just work. It would have been suspicious if we randomly started asking people to join a random website, so we thought about revealing ourselves during the process of creating it. Yes, neither Akhil nor Satwik had any say in this; I forced them to reveal themselves.
Our first version of Anonymous Campus was in pre-release on October 22, 2023, and it was fully released on October 24, 2023. At the start, we barely saw anyone joining; maybe the website was so poorly made that no one cared. But we spent about a month learning how to make a website from nothing, and now we can’t scrap it? Well, yes, I can, even though Akhil and Satwik asked me not to delete the whole website. Who am I to listen? Well, it was deleted, and it took about fifteen more days to get to what you mostly see today.
Once the website was released, people started joining, and yes, thanks to our friends, they helped spread the word about it. A few months passed, the new year came, and we hit a hundred members. Then a few days later, we had a hundred posts on the website. We could finally say our website was seen! Before this, we used to get excited about each user or post that joined/written, but after having over a hundred users, it was hard to keep track, so we just gave up on celebrating new users. But we still think it wouldn’t be possible without all the people here.
Yes, this type of website has its challenges, from missed moderation to keeping the website alive. At first, it was hard to say no to a friend who wanted to delete a post that did not violate any of the reasons for deletion, but over time, I learned to say no to deleting them. And yes, we regret having our moderation taken lightly. Now that we’ve seen what type of things people think of, we won’t make that mistake again.
Looking ahead, honestly, we don’t know what’s to come. The thing keeping this website alive, or the thing that has given it life, was impulsivity. So it really depends on how impulsive we are and what other stupid things we think of doing with this website. At least for now, the website will be kept online, but we’re not sure if we want to keep it like that for very long. Well, that’s a talk for another day.
And I’d like to end this off by saying, to celebrate this, we are taking the color theme back to the old Anonymous Campus theme for a week, and we really appreciate everyone who has been a user of this website for tagging along with us.
Thank you!
